About End of the Trail Sanctuary

We provide a safe, lifelong home for horses who need a place to land, with care centered on comfort, dignity, and the individual needs of every horse.  First, we will provide an intervention strategy to try to keep horses out of the auctions and kill pens.

Many horses are just one bad day away from a terrible fate. Many owners are unable to afford care for their older or sick horses through the winter months. We see them all the time: an older horse for sale for $500 or best offer. That is the horse that runs the risk of ending up in the wrong hands.

The kill-pen buyer who comes out to buy your older horse may not look like the evil they are. It may be a nice lady with little kids who promises to love your horse forever. That sweet lady may take your horse to an auction pen and double her money before the sun sets that day. This is the unfortunate reality of the horse industry.

Another way we differ from local rescues is that we will not go to auctions and bid against kill buyers. We will leave that necessary work to the experts in the field. Instead, we will try to offer a final loving home before horses end up in that facility—before they end up in that horror.

Finally, unlike other rescues, we will never adopt out our sanctuary horses. This beautiful 44-acre farm will be their home until their time to cross the Rainbow Bridge comes.
